At the recent North West  District Congress held in Preston, members representing three branches heard an inspiring and motivational political opening from General Secretary, Rob Griffiths.

Rob outlined the recently agreed Party Activity Plan and encouraged members of the District to participate in the planned events – the trade union cadre school, the Party Building weekend school, the Morning Star conference and activities around International Women’s Day – as well as urging them to use  new Party materials to promote our ideas to a wider public. Rob stressed the importance of developing an education programme around the new edition of the British Road to Socialism  and announced a new Public Speaking Tour later in the year. Rob then answered questions from delegates including the Party’s position on standing in forthcoming elections and our response to those calling for unions to abandon the Labour Party following recent coverage on Ed Ball’s attitude to spending cuts.
Congress then got down to the gritty work of reforming and re-energising a new North West District Committee. A total of 9 people were elected to the Committee and a date set for the first meeting – at which a new District Secretary will be elected.
