The European Union

The Communist Party will work to:

  • Win the trade union and labour movement for active involvement with trade unions across the European Union to defeat deflationary policies and the assault on the public sector by challenging the Stability and Growth Pact, the Lisbon Treaty and the EU as an institution.
  • Win an understanding in the trade union and labour movement of the character of the EU as a tool for imposing pro-big business, neo-liberal policies and eroding the progressive democratic potential of national parliaments.
  • Expose the 'principle' of the so-called 'free movement of labour' as a cover for the reality of the import and export of workers’ labour power, resulting in the economically forced movement of hundreds of thousands of workers around Europe in search of jobs. Such movement of labour undermines the national economies of those states losing workers, thus making them more vulnerable to imperialist domination. At the same time, such large scale movement of labour is used in an attempt to undermine pay, conditions and levels of trade union organisation throughout Europe, and to create ethnic divisions and tensions which help protect the capitalist class from a political crisis. The Communist Party will play a full role in building the class unity and organisation of all workers in Britain.
  • Strengthen existing organisations campaigning to demonstrate the inherently anti-democratic, neo-liberal, federalist and militarist character of the EU, and to promote alternative models for international economic cooperation not subordinated to state-monopoly capitalist interests but instead enabling working people to assert popular sovereignty.
  • Support the growing movement across the EU against NATO and the EU military agenda.
  • Work with Communist parties across Europe to combat attempts, at state and EU levels, to rewrite the historical record in order to suppress the role of Communists and the Soviet Union in the defeat of fascism.
  • Support Communists in Hungary, Latvia and Poland in opposing the bans on the public display of the symbols of socialism and communism.
  • Work with Communist, left and progressive forces across Europe to expose and challenge the resurgence of racism, xenophobia and neo-fascism in European countries — including that aimed at Roma peoples — which has been assisted by the big business, neo-liberal agenda of the EU.

Marxism - an introduction

Iraqi_CPMarxism inspires millions to struggle for a better world. The Communist Manifesto is the starting point in understanding working class politics. It was written in 1847 and published the following year. The CP reprinted the Manifesto in 2005 as part of it's Classics of Communism series, read it here.

Revolting Europe is a political blog with an internationalist flavour. Edited by radical left writer Tom Gill, it is great source of information about events in the political cauldron currently called 'European Union'
